As discussed on the Sedona Concert Organ page of this site, the two foundational instruments for the Sedona Conservatory Concert Organ are the Estey Magnum Opus #2981 from Claremont/Pomona College’s Bridges Auditorium, California, and the Aeolian-Skinner Opus 230-A from Oberlin College & Conservatory’s Finney Chapel, Ohio. Together, with carefully placed augmentations, they represent the full breadth of history and international tonal development of 20th-century American organ building.
The preliminary instrument plan totals 235 pipe sets, comprising over 12,700 individual pipes, thus making it the largest concert hall organ in the world. More important than size, however, will be the expansive tonal palette available.
The Claremont/Pomona College instrument, Estey Magnum Opus #2981, has pipe sets primarily from the English, French, southern German, and American (romantic/orchestral) schools of organ tone. The Oberlin Conservatory instrument, Aeolian-Skinner Opus 230-A, primarily features neo-classic and neo-baroque voices along with various orchestral-styled voices from Oberlin’s original 1915 Ernest M. Skinner organ.
